The city of Campbell was named after it's founder Benjamin Campbell. In 1846, Benjamin came to California with his father, William Campbell. William started a sawmill in Saratoga and surveyed the cities of San Jose and Santa Clara. Benjamin bought 160 acres in southern Santa Clara Valley in 1851 and cultivated grain and hay on it. This area later became known as Campbell's historical downtown. The city of Campbell was incorporated in 1952, it then grew rapidly as orchards and other older areas disappeared tract by tract. Campbell has grown from a small farming community with a population of approximately 5,000 to a much more modern progressive community with a population of over 38,000. Campbell is now a quiet residential area with well established neighborhoods and an excellent quality of life in the southern part of the Santa Clara Valley and Silicon Valley.
Campbell has managed to retain its "small town feel" even though it is located in the heart of Silicon Valley in California. The city of Campbell is surrounded and adjacent to the communities of Los Gatos, Saratoga and some of the most sought after areas of San Jose, CA. Campbell has an excellent school district, a large selection of single family homes, condominiums and townhouses. Prices for real estate range from $300,000s for some of the condo's to well over a million dollars for the larger homes and estates.
